SAFETY IMPROVEMENTS COMPLETE ON SPRINGVALE ROAD

Motorists will benefit from improved traffic flow and safer journeys, thanks to the completion of major works on two Springvale Road intersections.
The Andrews Labor Government has invested $3.9 million to upgrade the Springvale Road, Virginia Street and Newcomen Road intersection, with new traffic signals and pedestrian crossings now operational.
New safety improvements are also in place at the Rosalie Street intersection, with drivers now able to make left turns only from Rosalie Street on to Springvale Road.
During the five-year period between 1 July 2015 and 30 June 2020 there were nine recorded crashes at these intersections, four resulting in serious injury and sadly one fatality.
Most of these crashes involved cars turning right onto Springvale Road from Rosalie Street, Virginia Street and Newcomen Road.
As part of the works, road renewal and resurfacing also took place for the road’s longevity and provide a smoother ride.
The 40km/h speed limit has been extended up to Watt Street to further improve traffic flow, safety, and access to businesses.
Bus passengers will also benefit, with bus queue jump lanes near the intersection included in the design, giving bus services improved access into and through Springvale.
The project is part of a $30.4 million Victorian Government program of upgrades on metropolitan roads to improve safety and travel times, while also catering for growing demand.
